Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 of the 5 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After an early breakfast, begin your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests, famous for its chimpanzees and other primate species. And rolling hills and historical stopovers along the way.

Visit the National Museum in Butare, the Murambi Genocide Memorial Site, and the historic Nyanza King’s Palace, where you will gain insight into Rwanda’s rich culture, history, and heritage. Continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park, check in at your lodge, and spend the evening relaxing in preparation for the following day’s chimpanzee trekking adventure.

After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers on the guidelines and expectations during chimpanzee trekking.  In search of the energetic chimpanzees while also having the opportunity to encounter other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and baboons.

After the trekking experience, return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch before enjoying the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk. The canopy walkway offers breathtaking views of the rainforest, surrounding hills, and diverse vegetation, providing a unique perspective of Rwanda’s natural beauty.
